Guideline for Using AVSA Copyrighted materials

1. No written materials of any type, photos, or publications, whether in paper or electronic form, of the African Violet Society of America may be used in any form by any individual or group without specific written permission from AVSA. This shall govern materials published in any AVSA publication, including periodicals, books, website items, software, or library materials. When permission is granted, it shall be limited to a single, one-time use of the specific item requested.

2. Use of an website article (such as a FAQ), may be granted by the AVSA web supervisor, with the requirement that the source be cited fully by the user with the acknowledgment that permission was granted. No website article may be accessed by direct outside links from any commercial or private website without special permission of the AVSA Executive Committee. No website article may be copied to any other websites, or to electronic auction sites, or to any commercial venture whatsoever.

3. The one time use of any written item published in the African Violet Magazine may be granted by the AVSA Editor, with the requirement that the source be cited fully by the user with the acknowledgment that permission was granted.

4. The use of photos in First Class (any version) may be used by amateur growers, who have no commercial purpose, to make labels for violets in a personal collection, to make labels to sell leaves or starter plants at a club show, or in a personal website that does not attempt to offer items for sale. The use of First Class photos for any ongoing commercial purpose, such as, but not limited to, selling at Internet auction sites, AVSA convention shows, or commercial catalogs, is strictly forbidden. Furthermore, the use of said photos to manufacture products that will be sold (mugs, plates, clothing or jewelry) is strictly forbidden without the specific approval of the AVSA Executive Committee.

5. The commercial use of any photos, either printed or electronic, will not be granted, except by special permission of the AVSA Executive Committee. Photos on the website or in First Class (any version) may not be accessed by direct outside links from any commercial or private website without special permission of the AVSA Executive Committee. Photos may not be copied to any other websites, or to electronic auction sites, or to any commercial venture whatsoever.

6. The AVSA Executive Committee will consider special permission for the commercial use of photos when there is a substantial benefit for AVSA, whether monetary, promotional, or otherwise valuable. Before granting permission, AVSA will obtain full release from the photographer who submitted the photos for AVSA use. Any consented use of the photos must be cited fully by the user with the acknowledgment that permission was granted.
